Are the Papercutz Graphic Novels Canon with the Movies?

I have been wondering whether the graphic novels from Papercutz, Rio: Snakes Alive! and Rio: The Creature from Blu's Lagoon, are canon with the movies' storylines. Have they ever been confirmed by the filmmakers to be canon? If so, then I might buy them in order to find out more about what happened between the two movies.
