Rio Multiplayer Party Game! is a video game based on the film Rio and was released on April 12, 2011, by THQ, made for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Its gameplay is similar to that of the Mario Party series. Players can choose from 6 of the series' main avian characters, namely Blu, Jewel, Rafael, Eva, Pedro, and Nico.

The Xbox 360 version has three exclusive bonus mini-games included, as stated on the cover of the game.

Gameplay[]

Players can select which character they want to play as, from Blu, Jewel, Eva, Rafael, Pedro, or Nico. They can play 40 (43 in the Xbox 360 version) mini-games in the game (similar to the Mario Party series). Mini-game areas include the Smuggler's Den, Beach of Rio, Rainforest of Rio, Moose Lake, and the Carnival Parade. In Story Mode, the players play through Moose Lake first, in which their journey ends in the Carnival Parade (referred to as "Carnaval').

The game includes pop quizzes about Brazilian culture within the movie. It appears to happen after the movie, seeing as all characters do what they want to, and Nigel is powerless against numbers.

Main Menu[]

Upon entering the world of Rio, you will be presented with the following Options from the Main Menu

  • Play - Leads into the five available game modes to begin the player's gameplay in Rio.
  • Credits - This option views the game's credits
  • Options - Make changes to your game settings
  • Leaderboards - Views the game mode leaderboards and individual game high scores

Mode Select Screen[]

When selecting to play a game, the player is presented with the 5 main gameplay modes:

  • Story Mode:
    • The player will go through all the key movie locations in order with their favorite characters guiding them through the movie's storyline.
  • Party Mode:
    • This is a free-play mode. The player can select any number of mini-games in any order in the game style that the player wants to.
  • Carnaval Wheel:
    • The players are shown in an "ultimate game show experience". Players spin the wheel to determine the games they wanted to play and points they're worth. They can also use Jokers which gives them double points.
  • Garland Gala:
    • The player accept one of three challenges from their favorite film characters. Players win garlands by completing their games and use them to try and beat them in the Garland Gala. There consists of Luiz's challenge, Mauro's challenge, and Nigel's challenge, all of which require 25, 50, and 75 points respectively.
  • Carnaval Dance:
    • There are two dance styles: "Standard" and "Crazy". Players gather as many marmosets as they can. The first player to fill their dance line (specifically 20 in both dance styles) is the winner.

Join Game Screen[]

Upon selecting any mode the player is presented with the Join Game screen. Up to 4 players may join the game, and once joined, players may change their displayed character name or simply proceed with the default names.

Character Select Screen[]

Players can choose their game character from their favorites. The following playable characters go in a specific order:

Story Mode[]

Story Mode is the main game mode. In Story Mode, the players play through the minigames in the order of the movie. These are shown along with your movie host character on the Story mode screen. Locations vary from Moose Lake to Copacabana Beach to the Carnaval. Players play through Moose Lake first before moving onward. Players must complete 3 minigames at each location. After doing so they are returned to the story mode screen. If the player is ranked first after each location's minigames, they'Il be able to progress to the next location (with the exception of Carnaval). If the player doesn't finish first, the player will be brought back to the main menu, although this only applies to single-player, and multi-player with at least 1 CPU.

The Story Mode saves the player's location at the start of each new location. Once a save point exists the players will be instructed, whether they wish to start a new game or continue the game in progress when selecting Story Mode:

  • If the player wishes to continue where they previously left off they should select ra continue the game in progress.
  • If they instead wish to delete their save data and start a new story mode game they should select to start a new game. Doing this process will cause any current progress to be permanently lost.

Party Mode[]

Party Mode is one of the five available game modes. It is a free-play game mode that has 4 different sub-modes (known as Party Styles in-game). The minigames are unlocked from the start.

  • VS: 1 to 4 players compete head-to-head.
  • VS + Quiz: Like the standard VS mode, 1 to 4 players compete head-to-head, but every player has the chance to gain extra leaderboard points between rounds by competing to the Rio Quiz.
  • Team: 2 vs. 2 team mode, where players pick a team mate, either human or CPU/AI, and then play together. The player's leaderboard are combined or shared, and the team with the most points by the end of the game is the winner.
  • Team + Quiz: Like the standard team mode, but with the Rio quiz between rounds.

The Party Mode selection screen allows the player to customize their own gameplay experience, with the following options:

  • Selecting a single game
  • Stacking and playing as many games as players wish. All stacked games will be played back to back in the order that they selected them. Games that have been added to the stack have a green arrow icon displayed to their right hand side.
  • Select to play 5, 10 or 20 random games. This is for players who like a surprise or simply can't decide. The game will select the chosen number of games at random from the available games list. The random game options cannot be added to game stack and will automatically replace any existing stack if selected.

In addition to selecting games, the Party Mode Screen allows the players to see how well they've played their game.

Coming in first place while beating a minigame will be rewarded with a trophy. This will be displayed on the left hand side of each game that they came first on.

There are 3 different grades of trophies: bronze, silver, and gold. The Al difficulty can be changed in the setting screen. The type of trophy rewarded depends on the Al difficulty that the player completes when coming first:

  • Beating the Easy Al difficulty will reward the player with a bronze trophy.
  • Beating the Medium AI difficulty will reward the player a silver trophy.
  • Beating the Hard AI difficulty will reward the player with a gold trophy.

NOTE: Bold indicates that the mini-game is exclusive to Xbox platforms.

Most mini-games play the following numbered themes: 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, and 25.

The player with the most points when time runs out is the winner!

Let It Slide Climb the slippery roof to the top.

Avoid the snowballs (snowball icon) that the wicked villain Nigel (Nigel icon) rolls at you.

The first player to the top is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move
Rainforest
Wash Your Worries Away You'll start this game covered in gooey mud!

Stand on the water jets to wash yourself cleaner.

Watch out of the muddy jets as they'll make you dirtier.

Collect and throw mudballs to put them off.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A) - Jump, (B) - Throw
You're It! The nasty marmoset (marmoset icon) will throw gooey honey at one of the players.

When the bees leave their nests they will sting whoever has the honey and that player will lose a life.

Honey covered players should pass the honey onto other players by running into them.

The last player remaining wins.

Xbox: (L) - Move It is possible to let the player sting the marmoset with the bees, leaving all the other players intact.
Fruit Bomb Drop fruit onto the marmosets' (marmoset icon) heads to make them your color.

The longer you have them the more points you get.

The more marmosets you have the more points you will score.

Steal your opponent's marmosets to slow down their scoring and increase yours.

The player with the most points when time runs out wins.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Drop Collecting
Rio Streets
Street Dancing Dance to the rhythm by moving either stick in the correct direction as a star passes over the note.

The closer you are the more points you get.

Hit more notes in a row to score more points.

Xbox: (L)/(R) - Dance This mini-game always plays Mini Game Theme 7 by default and is an arrangement of Mini Game Theme 21. There are a total of 132 stars. The Wii version of this mini-game reduces the number of stars by 26.

The maximum multiplier is X8.

Dodgem Look out for the bouncing balls. (ball icon)

You will lose a life if you are hit.

The last player remaining is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move There is no time limit. Also, it is possible to end the game without any surviving players remaining.
Whack-A-Marmoset Whack the marmosets (marmoset icon) to score points.

Hit Nigel (Nigel icon) for a big points bonus.

Mauro (Mauro icon) won't give up easily. Send him packing for a big bonus.

Be careful not to hit your friend Luiz (Luiz icon) or you will lose points.

The player with the most points when time runs out wins.

Xbox: (L) - Aim, (A)/(B) - Whack Regular marmosets award the player 50 points. The "fruits" that are thrown by the marmosets give off 75 awarded points.

The ones that are swinging on wires award 100 points. Marmosets on balloons reward 150 points when hit. Nigel awards 250 points.

Mauro awards 50 points on the first to fourth hits, but 500 if players successfully hits him the fifth and last time.

Hitting Luiz will cause 500 points to be deducted. If the player has a multiplier, they will lose more than expected.

Truck Trap Players on the wall must throw juicy watermelons onto the player below.

The player at the bottom must avoid the watermelons for as long as possible.

Players take it in turns to be at the bottom dodging the watermelons.

Hit the player at the bottom and you will get a time bonus.

The player with the highest time is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Throw This mini-game is similar to Bird Bounce except the latter uses a drop technique. As with Bird Bounce, the maximum possible score is 90.0, while draws only go up to 60.0. Hitting the player at the bottom results in a 5 second bonus.
Tram Trials You will have to jump over flags and duck under banners!

Each time you take a hit you'll be knocked back until you fall off the back of the tram (sad emoticon).

The last player remaining is the winner.

Xbox: (A) - Jump, (B) - Duck In Hard Mode, there may be a chance of electric wires to appear. Colliding with them instantly eliminates the player on contact. In addition, letting all players knock back the tram results in a tie.
Aviary
Musical Chairs When the music plays collect as much fruit as you can to score points.

When the music stops quickly jump onto a perch to bank your points.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Perch
Super Mudball Collect and throw sticky mudballs (mudball icon) at other players.

Watch out because the muddier you get the slower you'll move.

If you get fully covered in mud you are out (sad emoticon).

You can bounce back mudballs by pressing the volley button just as they are about to hit you.

The player covered in the least amount of mud is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A) - Volley, (B) - Throw It is possible for this mini-game to end in a draw, but it is very difficult to do so.

To result in such draw, two players must throw at each other when they are only at one hit left. If one has a double multiplier, the other must be at two points or lower. If both have a double multiplier, both of them must be at two points or lower instead.

Bongo Bashers Luiz (Luiz icon) is teaching you to play the bongos!

Once he has had his turn, try to repeat his moves.

The better you copy him the more points you will score.

Hit every move in the sequence correctly and you will get bonus points.

Score the most points to win!

Xbox: (D-Pad)/(L) - Bash This mini-game plays either Mini Game Themes 6, 22, 23, or 24.

The maximum possible score in this game is 89.

Smuggler's Warehouse
Barrel Hide Collect fruit to score points.

When Nigel (Nigel icon) appears at the doorway quickly hide inside a barrel to bank your points.

If you don't get into a barrel before Nigel spots you, you will lose all your unbanked points. (sad emoticon)

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Hide This mini-game plays Mini Game Theme 3 as always.
Bird Bounce Players on the wall must bounce watermelons (watermelon icon) onto those below.

When at the bottom you must avoid the watermelons for as long as possible.

You will take it in turns to be at the bottom dodging the watermelons.

If you hit the player at the bottom you will get a time bonus.

The player with the highest time at the end of the game is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Drop (watermelon icon) This mini-game is similar to Truck Trap, except Bird Bounce allows free control for the other 3 players. As with Truck Trap, the maximum possible score is 90.0, while draws only go up to 60.0. Hitting the player at the bottom results in a 5 second bonus.

If the player is in team mode, there are only 4 turns instead of 8.

Survivor The marmosets (marmoset icon) are on the prowl and chasing after you.

If you are the last to be caught then you will win a point.

The first player to score 2 points is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move
Corcovado
Why Fly? As you glide you'll slowly lose height.

Fly over the swirling thermals (thermal icon) to get a height boost.

Glide for as long as you can by flying over as many thermals as possible.

Xbox: (L) - Move
Music Mayhem Play along with the band by hitting notes as they pass through your target area.

The closer you are to the target when you hit them the more points you get.

Hit notes in a row to get more points.

The player with the Most points at the end is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Play Left, (R) - Play Right This mini-game always plays Mini Game Theme 30 by default and is an arrangement of Mini Game Theme 4.
Marmoset Bowling Bowl over as many Marmosets as possible to score points.

Each bowl that hits a marmoset will boost your points Multiplier.

Be careful because if you bowl and miss you'll lose your bonus.

This is the only game where exclusive powerups are found and also the only game where players never do their victory/defeat animations more than once.
Watermelon Drop Collect juicy watermelons (watermelon icon) and drop them on the marmosets (marmoset icon) below.

Get bonus points for hitting Nigel (Nigel icon) or Mauro (Mauro icon). Take care not to hit your friend Luiz (Luiz icon) because you will lose points. The player with the highest score when time runs out is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Drop (watermelon icon) In this game, Mauro is always chased after Luiz. It is possible to hit Mauro twice, letting the player receive 20 points, though the latter hit does not play the "hit" animation. The same happens to Luiz, although 5 points are deducted instead.

It is also possible to hit Nigel more than once, but only if Nigel is airborne.

Sometimes, if the player successfully deals a hit to Nigel, then it is possible that Nigel will either remain airborne or fall to the ground, giving another 5 points to the player's score.

Copacabana Beach
Bombing Run Drop fruit on the nasty marmosets (marmoset icon) to score points.

Hit Mauro (Mauro icon) for bonus points.

You'll lose points if you hit your friend Luiz (Luiz icon).

The player with the most points at the end of the beach is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Drop (watermelon icon) It is possible to hit Luiz twice, letting the player deduct 10 points, though the latter hit does not play the "hit" animation. It is also possible to hit the same marmoset over and over again.

If the player drops a watermelon towards one of the "people", they will react and no points will be given or deducted.

Revealing Wave Collect the tasty fruit left behind by the wave to score points.

Go back to shore to bank your points.

Watch out because if the wave hits you, all your unbanked points will be lost (sad emoticon).

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Jump This mini-game is similar to Wave Chicken, except that the water is tinted dark blue and has different gameplay mechanics.
Piñata Bash Hit the bouncing piñatas to score points.

Collect the fruit they drop for bonus points.

Watch out for moving piñatas, they can really hurt and cost you points (sad emoticon).

Hit a piñata to knock them into your opponent to make them lose points.

The player with the most points when time runs out is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A) - Jump, (B) - Bash
Bubble Pop Fill the beach with bubbles by hitting the bubble machines to them turn on.

Pop bubbles of any color to score points.

You'll score bonus points for popping bubbles that are your color.

The player with the most points when time runs out is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A) - Jump, (B) - Bash This is an exclusive mini-game.
Wave Chicken Chase the wave out to sea in a game of nerve!

The closer you get to the wave the more points you will score.

Once the wave turns, quickly get back to shore to bank your point.

Watch out because if the wave hits you, all your unbanked points will be lost (sad emoticon).

The player with the most points when time runs out is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Jump This mini-game is similar to Revealing Wave, except that the water is tinted light blue and has different gameplay mechanics, and no collectibles.

This is an exclusive mini-game.

Fruit Market
Fruit Splash Avoid the rotten fruit that the marmosets (marmoset icon) throw at you.

If they hit you or you step on squashed Fruit you will fall off the roof

If you are last on the roof you win the round.

Win 2 rounds to win the game!

Xbox: (L) - Move Every round has a different mini-game theme. If the players wait long enough, the marmosets will either break the fourth wall in many ways.
Fruit Stall Soccer Get the tasty fruit back to the right Market stall by hitting it.

You will get points for each piece of fruit sent back to the right stall.

If you send fruit back to the wrong stall then you will lose points (sad emoticon).

Some fruit are worth more than others - can you work out which?

The player with the most points when time runs out is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Kick If the player deals a successive kick, then the "Goal" voiceline will be heard, in different variations. This is a reference to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in either Portuguese or Spanish.
Marmoset Attack Score points by hitting the marmosets (marmoset icon) with Fruit.

If you let a marmoset crash into you then you'll lose points.

Throw fruit at Nigel (Nigel icon) or he may steal your points.

The player with the most points when time runs out is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Aim, (A)/(B) - Whack This is similar to Whack-A-Marmoset, but with a few changes:

Regular marmosets award the player 50 points, while the ones on the sides award 75 points.

The ones that are swinging on wires award 100 points. Marmosets on balloons reward 150 points when hit. Whoever deals the last hit to Nigel awards 500 points.

Mauro awards 250 hits, which means Mauro takes 2 hits.

It is possible to let the player deduct 100 points by just getting hit by one the marmoset's thrown rotten fruits.

Luiz's Garage
Crate Drop Watch out for the falling crates!

Each time you are hit by a crate you will lose a life (sad emoticon).

The last player standing is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Jump It is theoretically possible to end the game without any players surviving.
Where's Luiz? When the lights go out use your flash-light to find Luiz (Luiz icon).

The faster you find him, the моге points you will get.

The player with the most points at the end is the winner!

Xbox: (L) - Aim, (A)/(B) - Find This mini-game plays Mini Game Theme 3 as always.

The "No Winner!" moniker only appears if no players have found Luiz. If a player finds a marmoset, the player is deducted exactly 5.0 points unless the player is at 0 or below 5.0.

If another player finds the same marmoset where the first player had spotted in the first place, there will be no effect, as since the player that chose the marmoset has only their points deducted and no one else.

Luiz's Chain Gang Score points by collecting fruit.

You will get bonus points each time you jump Luiz's (Luiz icon) rope.

If you get hit by the rope then you lose points! (sad emoticon)

The player with the most points when time runs out wins!

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A)/(B) - Jump The following process/cycles go in a semi-random order: counterclockwise, slows down, and then pauses control over Luiz before resuming. The process is repeated with pausing control for another time before switching directions to clockwise.

Eventually, Nigel chases after Luiz the other way around, reverting it to counterclockwise before slowing down again, then the direction change occurs again after a brief pause and slowing down. Nigel then goes through one complete loop without Luiz before controlling him. Lastly, Nigel leaves while Luiz remains intact.

Carnaval
Dance Off Match Luiz's (Luiz icon) dance moves with your controller/Wii Remote & Nunchuk.

Hit as many dance moves as possible.

The better you match his actions, the more points you will score.

The player with the most points when time runs out is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Left Move, (R) - Right Move

Wii: Nunchuk/Wii Remote - Left Move, Wii Remote/Nunchuk - Right Move

This mini-game always plays Mini Game Theme 1 by default and is an arrangement of Mini Game Theme 17, with a BPM of 126.

The maximum multiplier is X8. Every dance pattern is also randomized, in four different "moves". Here's a list of all dance patterns found in the mini-game.

Dodgeball Pick up the dodgeball (ball icon) and throw it at your opponents.

Do your best to avoid the dodgeball if someone throws it at you!

Each time you are hit you will lose a life (sad emoticon).

The last player standing is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Move, (A) - Jump, (B) - Throw If a player has the double multiplier, then any given hit will deduct 2 points instead of 1, in some cases, it can lead to a one-hit kill.
Firework Finale Shoot the beautiful fireworks to score points.

You can shoot any color, but you will get more points for shooting fireworks that are your color.

Each time you hit a firework your bonus will increase.

Be careful not to miss one, because that will reset your bonus.

The player with the most points when time runs out is the winner.

Xbox: (L) - Aim, (A)/(B) - Fire It is possible to get more than 10000 points. In addition, the multiplier does not have a given maximum limit.

Player HUDs[]

The player HUD displays all important information for each minigame. Some information is displayed for all minigames for others the information is minigame specified. The player HUD always displays the following:

  • The players colour
  • The player's selected cliaracter
  • The player's position in the current minigame

If the player is in 1st place it will be highlighted with a star icon and the player icon will wear the winners carnaval crown, though if there are at least two players in 1st place, that crown will disappear until only one player in 1st place remains.

Depending on the game being played the player HUD will also display the following generic elements:

  • Player Score: The player's score for the game in progress. If the played minigame supports banking points then banked points will be displayed in the top HUD panel and unbanked points in the lower one.
  • Lives: On life based games the number of player's lives are represented by "feathers". As lives are lost, feathers are subsequently removed. Once all feathers have been removed, the "lives" are lost and the player will be eventually "removed" from the game.
  • Rounds: On round based games, the number of rounds the player has won is shown by trophy icons.

Pickups[]

Rio's minigames feature a large number of collectable items. Some award the player points, and some give them temporary abilites. The most common of these are based on fruits:

Generic Pickups[]

Generic pickups are affected by multiplier powerups.

  • Mango: Worth 10 points
  • Banana: Worth 15 points
  • Watermelon Slice: Worth 25 points
  • Pineapple: Worth 50 points
Special Pickups[]
  • Bodyguard: A flock of protective birds (which depends on the player's color) fly down and circle the player. They'll protect the player against one hit of damage. Alternatively the player can ram their bodyguard into another player to temporarily stun them. After protecting the player or stunning another player, the bodyguard will fly away and will be removed from the player. It is depicted as a shield.
  • Chili Power: Players with chili power run faster and it can be used to stun other players by running into them. It wears off after a set time period, in which the flames are "extinguished". It is depicted as a red chilli pepper.
  • Invulnerability: Protects players against most forms of attacks and other negative special pickups, making them invincible. It wears off after a set time period and is depicted as a blue shield.
  • Latin Trance: Causes all other players to enter a "dance trance", slowing their movement and limiting their actions, which appears to be more of a "hypnotized dance". The latin trance effect will wear off all affected players after a set time period or if another unaffected player takes a hit. It is depicted as two beamed musical notes.
  • Leaderboard Bonus: Gives the collecting player an extra leader board point. Leaderboard bonus points are added onto the players score at the end of the round when the results table is displayed. This also applies to Story Mode. This powerup does not appear in the Carnaval Wheel or Carnaval Dance game modes. It is depicted as a golden trophy.
  • Magnetism: Increases the player s pickup collection range (which is depicted as a magnet), allowing quick hovering of collectables. It wears off after a set time period.
  • Multiplier: Add an "X2" multiplier to all scores, which are both positive and negative. By collecting additional multiplier pickups whilst already under the effect of a multiplier the player can increase their multiplier score to a "maximum" of X5 (the player can "effectively" bypass the limit, which gives an X6 or X7 in certain circumstances). It wears off after a set time period. It is always depicted as the text "x2", regardless of multiplier effect.
  • Pick Pocket: A marmoset will steal points from one of the opposing players with the highest scores and add those points onto the collecting players score. It is represented by a depiction of a marmoset's head.
  • Points Bonus: Adds a points bonus to the playera mini-game score. It is represented by a depiction of a coin with a plus symbol on it.
  • Shock And Awe: Temporarily stuns all other players while being simultaneously "struck by lightning". It is represented by a depiction of a yellow lightning bolt symbol.
  • Speed Up: Increases player's run speed. It wears off after a set time period and is represented by a blue shoe.
  • Pickup Rain: Causes generic pickups to "rain" from the sky, meaning that many of them drop from above.
  • Upgrade: Depicted as a pipe wrench, this special pickup upgrades all pickups highest value pickup type. In the case of certain games such as Fruit Bomb, it converts all of the "marmosets" into their own color as soon as the player collects the Upgrade.
Exclusive to Marmoset Bowling[]
  • Beach Ball: Changes the player's next ball into a large one which appears to be a lifesized beach ball.
  • Cannonball: Changes the players next ball into a cannonball When it hits a marmoset it will explode, knocking down all nearby marmosets in the vicinity. If a player holds it for too long or hesitates before launching the cannonball, it could explode and will stun that player.
  • Multiball: Changes the players next shot into a 3 ball spread shot.

Carnaval Wheel is an optional, additional game mode where players compete in 12 different rounds while adding up their scores. Players spin the wheel to determine the games they wanted to play and points they're worth. They can also use Jokers which gives them double points, but there are only three in each player.

Carnaval Dance[]

Carnaval Dance is an optional, additional game mode where there are two dance styles: "Standard" and "Crazy". Players gather as many marmosets as they can. The first player to fill their dance line (specifically 20 in both dance styles) is the winner. At first, players initially select which mode they wish to play:

  • Standard Mode is hosted by Luiz who likes to play fair. The maximum possible score in this game style is 23.
  • Crazy Mode is hosted by Nigel who likes to play dirty. The maximum possible score in this game style is 28.

If the player's position is either in fourth, third, second, or first, then the amount of marmosets awarded will be 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively. The game cannot let the player get none after a game (unless the preceding game is a tie-breaker). If the user chose to play Nigel's Crazy dance mode they have the opportunity to steal marmosets from other players lines by taking part in a number of challenges selected by Nigel.

In both Standard and Crazy dance mode the first player to have 20 marmosets to their dance line is the winner.

Game Settings[]

In the settings screen (referred to as "Options") the player may customize the game.

Al Difficulty[]

Changes the skill level of the AI-controlled characters The default difficulty is Medium, which is represented by a silver trophy symbol when starting up a game. Younger or casual players may wish to change it to Easy, which is represented by a bronze trophy symbol, while more advanced gamers may wish to change it to Hard, which is represented by a gold trophy symbol.

Music Volume[]

Changes the volume of the game music. The default value is 80%.

SFX Volume[]

Changes the volume of the game speech and sound effects. The default value is 100%.

Dynamic Camera[]

Toggles the tracking camera that follows and zooms in on the players during play on most minigames. It is enabled by default.

Rumble[]

The Rumble feature is only exclusive to the Wii version.

Left Handed[]

The Left Handed setting is only exclusive to the Wii version. Enabling or disabling will switch the Wii or Nunchuk's controls and vice versa.

  • In some mini-games, there is a chance that a marmoset will change the number of seconds remaining to a lower or higher value before being electrocuted. The chance is rarer in the Wii version.
  • While the retail manual for Rio for the PS3 says the multiplier score can only increase to a maximum of X5 from X2, the player can "effectively" make it to X6 or X7.
  • This game is very similar to Mario Party 8.
  • The Xbox 360 version is compatible with the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X, although you need to buy a physical copy of the game, as it is not for sale on the Microsoft Store.
  • Because Blu is seen flying in this game, it is implied that the game takes place after the events of the movie.
  • A player can only temporarily lose up to three marmosets in the Carnaval Dance Crazy Mode.
