The Gate Guard is a minor character that appears in Rio. He is seen managing who will enter the parade's "performers only" area of Carnival. He is voiced by Carlos De Oliveira.

Role in Rio

He appears in the movie while Linda and Tulio are searching for Blu and Jewel, knowing that they are in the smugglers' float.

He is first seen letting performers go in their designated area. He then sees a non-performer male approaching him, and tells him "Wait. Stop, please. Performers only".

Wanting to get access to the Carnival floats, Linda and Tulio have to pass the Gate Guard to enter the parade's "performers only" area.

They decide to dress up as performers, with Tulio wearing a costume of a male Spix's macaw, resembling Blu, and Linda wearing one of a female Spix's macaw, resembling Jewel.

Just before they try to enter the area, Tulio says to Linda to "act naturally", and they both decide to act as they were two blue macaws. The Gate Guard is surprised and intrigued by their behavior, and looks at them entering the supposedly restricted area.
